OK so Final Fantasy VII (FF 7) is consider to be, by a good majority of the internet as one of the best RPG ( Role Playing game) of all time. However this post isn't about my option on the game, it's about a connection to science and that is what I am going to do. So brief plot overview ( at least of what you need to know). So there is this company named Shinra, and they have been harvesting this thing called lifestrem ( It is basically the soul of the planet itself) and it is made from the souls of all the plants and animals that have died on the planet. And it also has a liquid from called Mako, and Shinra has used this too take control of the world by controlling the worlds power. So if you haven't made the connection already, Mako is oil and it is made by the dead remains of organic matter, like how oil is made from dead organisms from millions of years ago in the real world . So that is just a post on not so final fantasy 7. PS there mining of the lifestrem did have an effect on the planet, just not the one it would have in real life ( I will not say it for spoiler reasons).
